Janice Elizabeth Pitts (Sarrett), 79, passed away peacefully at home in Lawrence on Friday, January 27, 2023, in the presence of loved ones. She was born August 5, 1943, in Jackson, MS to Jessie Harris Burt Sarrett Sr. and Viola Hand Sarrett.

Janice was a loving wife and devoted mother who was adored by all who were blessed to know her. She graduated from Central High School in Jackson in 1961 and was a retired office manager at McNeely Plastics in Clinton. Janice had a brilliant mind that showed in her love for word games. This led her to find The Mississippi Scrabble Players, where she would compete alongside her brother, Harris. This love continued throughout the years. She also loved camping at Fort Pickens in Gulf Breeze, Florida, fishing on the peer in Pensacola, and going on Carnival cruises. She loved anything that allowed her to spend time with those she loved. She was especially excited when her 2nd Great-grandchildren were born, making five generations.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Pitts Sr. Brothers: James Sarrett, Johnny Sarrett, Jessie Harris Burt Sarrett Jr., Jerry Sarrett, and Sister: Audrey Sarrett. Brother-in-law, Clyde Pitts Jr., Son-in-law, Paul McCain, Daughter-in-law, Janice Rutledge Pitts, and Grandson, Kristopher Pitts.

Survivors include Daughters: Debra Pitts McCain and Patty Pitts Watson. Sons: Jerry Pitts Jr. (Vicki) and Larry Pitts (Shelby). Brother: Jackie Sarrett (Betty), Grandchildren: Tara Herron (Steve), Garry Pitts, Randy Watson (Megan), T. J. Ward (Lyndsay), David Watson (Lindsey) Samantha Ashley (Jarrett), Jessica Davis (Brandon) Lauren Pitts, Amber Pitts, Conlan Ulrich, Kaitlin Ulrich, and Kyle Matte. Great-Grandchildren: Madison Etheridge (Austin), Chloe Partheymuller, Austin Pitts, Hailey Watson, Kelsey Watson, Kryslin Prem, Jordan Prem, Brooklyn Watson, Bryce Ashley, Avaleigh Watson, Emma Davis, Hadley Watson, Staxx Ward, Brylee Watson, Riley Watson, Lane Ward, Haddox Ashley, and William Davis. 2nd Great Grandchildren: River and Joshua. Nephews/Nieces: Jimmy Sarrett, Judy Sarrett, Mike Sarrett, Teresa Sarrett Hunt, Wendy Sarrett Bell, Gary Sarrett, Craig Sarrett, Tim Sarrett, Lisa Sarrett Lee, Jay Sarrett, and Jeffrey Pitts. In-Laws: Don Armstrong (Shay), Michael Pitts (Bobbie), Beverly Sarrett, Janet Rutledge, and Tommy Cook (Billie Jean). Extended family: Bubba Brooks (Phyllis), Frances Powell (Jim), Gilda Faye Peoples (Gary), Marilyn Sefton, Kenneth Sutton, Robert King, Henry King Jr., Roy King, Linda Kay Woods, Carolyn Till, Annette Tramel, Benny Davis, Marie McWilliams, Bruce Davis, Patricia Grimes, Gail Bates, Wayne Davis, Howard Davis, Lynn Davis, Ronnie Davis, Susan White, Lisa Turner, Addison Baxter, Joel Thornton, Edward Tucker, Jackie McCain, John McCain, J. C. Penson, Tabitha Penson, and Skylar Penson.
