James Melvin Crosby, 86, passed away Tues. Feb. 28, 2017 at his home in Brandon, MS. Visitation will be held on Fri. March 3, 2017 from 5pm-8pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS and on Sat. March 4, 2017 from 11:30am-12:45pm at First United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services will be 1pm on Sat. March 4, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS with burial to follow in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
Mr. Crosby was born in Philadelphia, MS and has been a longtime resident of Rankin County, MS. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS. Mr. Crosby served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On his 21st birthday he was fighting for his country during the battle of Heartbreak Ridge. Mr. Crosby enjoyed working in his garden and loved to go hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sara Crosby; daughter, Kay Phillips (Joe); son, Brad Crosby (Kim); daughter in law, Gaye Crosby; sister, Rose Alford; brother, Ray Crosby; 8 grandchildren, Joseph Crosby (Allison), Jase Phillips, Cassie Crosby, Tyler Anderson, Brittany Crosby, Bailey Crosby, Braden Mai Crosby, Brady Crosby and 1 great grandchild, Ethan Phillips. Mr. Crosby is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Woodard Crosby and Vera Lane Crosby; son, Jim Crosby; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
