James Lamar Rhodes Jr.

James Lamar “Jim” Rhodes Jr., 64, passed away on Sept. 2, 2022, in Pelahatchie, MS. Visitation will be held on Thurs. Sept. 8, 2022, from 9am-10:45am at Lodebar United Methodist Church in Pelahatchie, MS. Funeral Services are 11am Thurs. Sept. 8, 2022 at Lodebar United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS is handling arrangements.

Mr. Rhodes was born on Jan. 14, 1958, in Pelahatchie, MS to the late James Lamar Rhodes and Altus Harpe Rhodes. Jim was a Pelahatchie native.  He was graduated from Pelahatchie Attendance Center and Hinds Community College. He studied forestry at Mississippi State University. As a young man he worked for Irby Construction before becoming a lineman for Entergy. Later, he began Tree Masters, a tree cutting service. He proudly served in the MS Army National Guard.  He completed paratrooper training and was assigned to the 20th Special Forces Group. As a naturally gifted and studied musician, Jim sang and played guitar, piano, harmonica, and trumpet. Jim loved all animals, especially raising young raccoons and squirrels. Jim was a lifelong member of Lodebar United Methodist Church in Pelahatchie where he maintained the church grounds and cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter, Courtney Lynn Rhodes; son, James Gatlin Rhodes (Jaqueline); sister, Judy Rhodes Davis (John) and one grandchild, Kathaleya Rhodes.
