James Edward Thompson, born on September 3, 1941, in Brandon, Mississippi, passed away on October 23, 2025, in Pearl, Mississippi. James led a remarkable life filled with dedication and love for his family and community.
Having retired from the United States Postal Service and the State of Mississippi's Department of Finance and Administration, James also spent cherished time working at the Senior Citizens Center in Pearl, where he truly found joy in helping others. He was a devoted friend to all, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.
James was known for his vibrant personality. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He greatly enjoyed dancing, playing bingo, and engaging in card games. His cheerful nature earned him the affectionate nickname "Mr. Porkchop" among the staff at the Waffle House in Pearl, MS.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Renee Hanna, and her husband Draten; his grandson, William Andrew New; his three great granddaughters; his sister, Connie Reiman; sister-in-law, Nancy Thompson; and his granddog, Maddie.
James was preceded in death by his son, James Walter Thompson; his parents, Homer Thompson and Mary Morrison Thompson; his sisters, Evelyn Pitts and Helen Slater; brother, H.T. Thompson and his brother-in-law, Bill Reiman.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation, which will take place on October 26, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, Mississippi. A funeral service will follow on October 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with another visitation starting at 10am. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, MS.
James Edward Thompson will be remembered fondly for his kindness, sense of community, and the love he shared with everyone around him. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
