James Morris

James L. Morris, 73, passed way on June 22,2022, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness with Alzheimer’s. A memorial celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at Crossgates United Methodist Church were he was a life long member. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM. Ott & Lee Funeral Home and Crossgates United Methodist Church will oversee the arrangements.

Born on November 7, 1948 to the late Edgar and Vella Morris, James spent his high school years in Grenada where he graduated from John Rundle High School. He attended Holmes Junior College where he played football, baseball and ran track. He then attended Mississippi State University where he received a degree in Civil Engineering. James proudly served his country as a member of Army Reserve for 6 years.

Mr. Morris worked in the construction industry for many years, eventually starting his own business, ProCon, Inc. He and his wife of 42 years, Sandra Tipton Morris, settled in Brandon, Mississippi in 1981. James loved the City of Brandon and its citizens. He become involved in politics, serving as Alderman-At-Large for 24 years. He enjoyed hunting, hanging out with his grandchildren, and cheering on Mississippi State.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jake Adam Morris and sister, Willie Rice. Besides is wife Sandra, he is survived by his daughter Lana Morris Hartzog, her husband Chad and their two beautiful children, Jake Michael and Jillian James. Special family member Missy Fischer, her husband James and their daughters Ava and Adriana. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Doris Honeycutt, his sisters Clydean McHann, Nellie (Sha) Caldwell, Judy Lundy, Jody Duncan, Deb Speiro and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Heart of Hospice, 1675 Lakeland Drive #407, Jackson, MS 39216 or Crossgates United Methodist Church, 23 Crossgates Drive Brandon, MS 39042.
