James Lewis

James Osee “Jim” Lewis, age 95, a resident of Brandon, MS passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Merit Health Rankin in Brandon, MS.  Funeral services will be held Friday, October 21, 2022, 10:30 at Grace Baptist Church in Brandon, MS with interment at 2:00 pm Friday at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Bay Springs, MS. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7:30 pm Thursday, October 20, 2022, at the Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.

Mr. Lewis was born September 7, 1927, in Jackson, MS to Samuel Osee Lewis and Inez Lucille Hardy Lewis. He was married to Dorothy Rhoeve Yelverton Lewis. Mr. Lewis proudly served in the United States Navy and retired with 22 years of service. He served as a Navy ROTC instructor. He also worked as an electrician for St. Regis/Georgia Pacific before retiring. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Brandon, MS and served as a deacon many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Lewis was a licensed private pilot with a multi engine rating. He was a flight instructor and operated the Brookhaven Airport for several years. He loved his family very much and spending time with them brought great joy to his life. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Osee Lewis and Inez Lucille Hardy Lewis, and brother, William Richard Lewis.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy Rhoeve Yelverton Lewis; his children, Dawn Lewis Ruggles (Arthur), Laura Lewis Oster (Daryl), and Judy Lewis Smith (Harry); grandchildren, Bradley Martin, Stephanie Martin Paul (Andrew), Joseph Oster (Misty), Paul Oster (Kelley), and Matthew Oster (Mollie); great grandchildren, Tyler (Lauren), Madison, Paige, Bryce, Paden, Isabella, Emily Grace, Austin, Prentiss, and Lillie; many other family members and a host of friends.
