James Harold Hazzard

James (Jimmy) Harold Hazzard, 87, of Cleveland, MS stepped into the open arms of Jesus on May 18, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 1pm. to 3pm. at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS.

Jimmy was born September 20, 1937 to Curtis and Lela Hazzard in Cleveland, Mississippi. He attended Cleveland High School. Upon his father’s death he went to work in the trucking business to support his mother, brother and sisters where he excelled as a terminal manager. He attended Delta State University where he met and married Mae Dantzler on September 5, 1959 and fathered four sons; James Jr, Curtis, Carl and Tim who were all born in Cleveland, MS. After their births, Jimmy and Mae had the opportunity to live in many places around the country: Boyle, MS; Cleveland, MS; Greenville, MS; Meridian, MS; New Orleans, LA; Fort Washington, PA; Clinton, MS and finally settled down in Brandon, MS in 1986.

Jimmy “retired” in 2004 after many years of dedicated work. Upon retirement, Jimmy and Mae moved to Miami for 2 years before he again retired and they returned to Brandon, MS. During their retirement years they were able to enjoy the lives they worked so hard to build. They were never apart and serve as a true inspiration of what the sanctity of marriage should be. Jimmys hobbies included playing golf, watching football and never missing a Braves game on TV. He was an active member of Flowood Baptist Church in Flowood, MS. Jimmy is preceded in death by Mae who passed away on November 3, 2011. He later married Jimmie Lou Wright in 2012 from Knoxville, TN and upon her passing in January of 2025 he moved to Panama City, Fl to be near family. He is also preceded in death by his parents, brother Ramon, and sister Helen. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Fioranelli of Gulfport, MS; sons James Hazzard Jr. (Mary) of Springfield, MO, Curtis Hazzard (Sarah) of Panama City, FL, Carl Hazzard (Renee) of Bessemer, AL, and Tim Hazzard of Greenville, TN and his grandchildren Lara Hazzard, Alicia Hazzard, Reba Hazzard Williams, James Hazzard III, Megan Hazzard Turman, Grace Hazzard, Presley Hazzard, Cole Hazzard, Landry Hazzard and Lauren Hazzard, and great-grandchildren Landon Rymer, Wyatt Heath, Agnes Heath, Emmett Heath, Evelyn Hazzard, Isaac Hazzard, Mason Turman, Mae Turman, Miles Turman, Curtis Williams and Lukas Hazzard.

He is also survived by daughter Anne Teasley of Knoxville, TN and granddaughters Abby Teasley of Tampa, FL and Amanda Teasley of Nashville, TN.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to BeeHive Homes of Lynn Haven and Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care.
