James Harvey Smith
September 17, 1945 – November 09, 2024
James joined the Army when he was 17. After returning home, he went to work at Cooper Lighting, then started his career with the Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement in June of 1994.
James loved fishing and hunting with his wife of 29 years, being “Pops”, and spending time with his grandchildren, Brittany Maricle and Jacob Smith.
James had three children he was very proud of. Carol LeAnne Smith, who, like her father, joined the Army. He was proud of her accomplishments in life. Frances Strudivant was always his baby girl. He would tell people, “My baby girl is smart as a whip and raised 3 amazing children.” He was always proud of his son, James Harvey Smith, Jr. (Jimbo)’s work ethic, telling people how Jimbo started welding at 15 to make a couple dollars up until today where he has become a good man and father of 3 children.
There were people who came into his life that fulfilled it. Mandy Majors was like a daughter to him. He looked forward to vacations or visiting her. Lynette Wiltcher Smith was a little sister to him when she married his brother Albert.
James was preceded in death by his mama, Loga Anna Lockerby; parents, Caroll Smith and Mary Smith; and siblings, Mary Jo Martin, Loga Ann Oaks, Carol Jean Tedder, and Billy Wayne Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Zandrea; his dog, Zeek; 3 children; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Albert Smith, whom James enjoyed being with and spending time with; and 3 sisters who kept him on his toes when he was younger, Geraldine Tedder, Patricia Wamble, and Frances Smith.
James Harvey requested that there be no memorial service on his behalf.
