Hurshel Everett, age 88 of Flowood, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at home.
Visitation will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Thursday, February 9, 2023. Funeral services will follow at Ott and Lee Chapel at 12:00pm on Thursday, February 9, 2023, with burial in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Mayton (Puckett), MS.
Hurshel graduated high school at White Oak and entered the Army shortly after that. Upon discharge from the Army, he married his beloved wife, Melba Hutson in 1956 and were happily married for 66 years. He was employed by Mississippi Power and Light Company for 3 years prior to employment with the Jackson Fire Department where he retired as Captain after 22 years of service. After retirement they moved to Puckett where he raised cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C.S. Everett and Cora Cooper Everett, sisters, Eula Mae Dollar, and Evelyn Burnham, brothers, Eugene Everett, Clifton Lindsey, W.A. Lindsey, and Cooper Lindsey. Survivors include his two children Renee Coleman (Dennis), of Brandon and Steve Everett of Flowood, MS, 2 grandchildren, Brittany Coleman Parker (Kyle), Tyler Coleman, 2 great-grandchildren, Olive and Aubrey Parker, brother-in-law, Halbert Hutson and a host of nieces and nephews.
