Genell Cooper Beard

Genell Cooper Beard, 86, of Tallahassee, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, August 22, 2022.  She was born June 10, 1936 in Morton Mississippi to the late William H. Cooper and Bonnie Mae Bradshaw and was the wife of the late Joe Thomas Beard.

Mrs. Beard was a graduate of Morton High School where she was a majorette, played the French horn in the school band, crowned Ms. Morton High School Homecoming Queen and recognized as the Friendliest student in 1954.    Mrs. Beard attended East Central Junior College where she met the love of her life, Joe.  She spent most of her adult life taking care of her family.  She spent many years working in the furniture industry.  She loved home décor, traveling and spending time with friends and family.  She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Her smile was infectious and to know her was to love her.

Mrs. Beard is survived by her two sons Michael Thomas Beard (Ann) of Atlanta, GA; Marcus Alan Beard (Debbie) of Crawfordville, FL; grandchildren Amanda Beard Simpson (David); Ashley Beard Burnette (Mark), Joseph Beard, Meagan Bieber and Lauren Casto; five great grandchildren Haisley Burnette, Presley Simpson, Lyndell Simpson, Benton Burnette, Camille Burnette, one sister Pauline C. Scott and many nieces, nephews and cousins she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Bonnie Cooper; husband Joe Beard; two brothers Lavell Cooper and Billy Ray Cooper; one sister Katie Maude Nobles and her beloved dog Hank.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Beard will be held at 11 a.m. Central Time on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Springfield Baptist Church, Morton, MS officiated by the Reverend Hal Cooper.  Burial will follow at the Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 28, from 4 pm to 5 pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Morton, MS.
