Frederick “Scot” Huffman, 54, of Morton, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on March 8, 1971, in Morton, Scot was the beloved son of Jimmy Lavelle Huffman and Mary Virginia Huffman. A 1989 graduate of East Rankin Academy, Scot went on to earn his degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1997. With a steadfast passion for healing and helping others, Scot dedicated his life to the field of physical therapy and athletic training—launching, managing, and improving numerous clinics throughout Mississippi. Most recently, he served as owner and manager of Performance Therapy, where his leadership, integrity, and care left a lasting impact on countless patients and colleagues.
Scot was an avid sportsman who found great joy in the woods. He especially loved turkey hunting across Mississippi, but his heart was always on his own land—his FAVORITE place to be. Whether tracking deer, calling in gobblers, or simply being outdoors, he felt most at home and happiest in God’s creation.
More than his professional accomplishments or his time in the woods, Scot will be remembered for the way he loved his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jade Storey Huffman, and a proud father to Halle McKay Huffman, Kyla Kate Huffman, and Elijah Scot Huffman. His family was his WORLD, and the love he poured into them will be felt forever.
Scot is also survived by his father, Jimmy Lavelle Huffman; his mother, Mary Virginia Huffman; his sisters, Connie Goodman (Mike) and Karen Jones; his nieces and nephews Christin (Colby), Christopher (Victoria), Dillon, Marley, Janna Grace, and Dawson; and many dear friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Nannie Mae Bradshaw and Clyde Sr. and Zora Huffman.
Those who knew Scot will always remember his quick smile, contagious laugh, and unique sense of humor. Whether he was impersonating a Claiborne Beatty voice, making cricket noises, doing the “elevator falling” sound, imitating a baby wailing, or mimicking a velociraptor —he kept those around him laughing and feeling loved. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued. He especially adored “his girls” and Eli, and he NEVER missed a chance to let them know how PROUD he was.
As a physical therapist, Scot was compassionate and down-to-earth, but mostly UNFORGETTABLE. His favorite therapy quote still brings a smile: “On a scale of 0 to 10, how bad does it hurt — with 0 being none and 10 being putting a toothpick under your toenail and kicking the wall?”
A man of quiet faith and deep conviction, Scot found comfort in the Word. One verse that held special meaning to him was Ecclesiastes 11:3 - “If the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.” The verse reflects the unchangeable nature of some events—once the tree falls, it rests where it lands. In Scot’s life, this truth reminds us that his impact, his love, AND his legacy are firmly rooted and will not be moved.
