Evelyn Reed Allen

October 29, 1933 — December 20, 2025

Pearl, MS

Evelyn Reed Allen was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 20, 2025.

Evelyn was born in Laurel, MS in 1933 on October 29th. Evelyn was the daughter of Charles Wesley Reed and Mildred Reed and she was the youngest of 4 children.

Evelyn graduated from George S. Gardiner High School in Laurel in 1950. Following graduation she went to work for the local Gas Company in the office as a bookkeeper. In 1952 she met the love of her life, Charlie Allen of Ellisville, MS and they conducted a long-distance courtship as Charlie was in the Air Force stationed in El Paso, TX.

Evelyn married Charlie on October 6, 1956, in Laurel, MS at Evelyn’s home. After the wedding Evelyn and Charlie moved to Montgomery, AL where Evelyn was a homemaker. While in Montgomery they welcomed their first child, a son who they named Charles Reed Allen. Four years later they welcomed a daughter, Mildred (Mickie) Evelyn Allen. Once her kids started school, Evelyn was very involved with the PTA and active with her local Church, Asbury United Methodist Church.

In 1969 Evelyn and Charlie moved to Shreveport, LA for a short 3 months as Charlie had taken a new job with Delta Air Lines. Delta then transferred Charlie to Jackson, MS where Evelyn and Charlie bought a house in Pearl, MS. After Evelyn’s children graduated from high school, Evelyn went back to work part time at Christ United Methodist Church in the office where she worked for a number of years. Following Charlie’s retirement Evelyn and Charlie loved to ride on Charlie’s motorcycle. They took many long-distance road trips with Evelyn on the back of Charlie’s Gold Wing. Evelyn and Charlie also took advantage of Delta’s flight privileges and traveled all over the country. Evelyn loved to cut grass, and she kept an immaculate yard well into her 80’s until age just prevented her from working in the yard. Evelyn was very active in her church, McLaurin Heights Methodist Church in Pearl, MS where she loved to serve the Lord. She was also very dedicated visiting those that she knew that were in nursing homes and she volunteered doing work in the food bank at her church as well as doing volunteer work with the MS Food Network. Evelyn was an excellent cook and loved cooking for her kids and grandchildren. Sunday lunch after church was always a weekly treat for everyone. A question posed in a questionnaire for her 50th high school reunion asked, “what is your greatest accomplishment?”. Evelyn indicated her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Albert, Tony Wehunt of Peach Tree Assisted Living, the wonderful staff at Peach Tree and St. Joseph Hospice Ministries for the outstanding care provided to our Mama.

Evelyn is survived by 2 children, son Charlie Allen (wife, Annette) of Madison, MS and daughter Mickie Dilley (husband, Lee) of Pearl, MS. Evelyn has 2 grandchildren, a granddaughter, Christie Marie Allen who lives in Jackson, MS and a grandson, Allen Dilley (wife, Madeleine) who lives in Olive Branch, MS. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Charlie in September 2025. In lieu of flowers please make a memorial donation to McLaurin Heights Methodist Church, 325 Mary Ann Drive, Pearl, MS 39208.
