Eva Grace Barnes, Brandon, MS
Eva Grace Barnes, 94, of Brandon died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be Friday, August 6, 2010 from 6 until 8 pm at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 10 am at the Old Brandon Cemetery.
Eva Grace graduated from Brandon High School in 1933 and from Belhaven College in 1937, where she majored in English and drama. She did her practice teaching in Mt. Olive and in Forest before teaching English for almost twenty years at Brandon High School. Eva Grace loved her students, and her students loved her. After her retirement, she became certified as a National Flower Show judge, judging shows all over the Deep South. She was a member of the Brandon Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Oswald G. Barnes (Sara) of Raymond and Joseph B. Barnes Sr. (Tammy) of Brandon, and by her grandchildren, Heather and Gray of Raymond, and Joseph, Jonathan, and Marshall of Brandon. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. G. Barnes, Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Janice Chamblee Barnes.
