Erie Gertrude Phillips Haynes - June 21, 1915 - January 27, 2021

Erie Gertrude Phillips Haynes, affectionately known as Granny, passed away on January 27, 2021, in Brandon, Mississippi, at 105 years of age.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Millage Henry Phillips and Pearl Arender Phillips; husband, Hes Haynes; three children: Lamar (Polly) Haynes, Nancy Haynes, and Randell Haynes; her siblings -  three brothers (Sidney Phillips, Plummer Phillips, Caley Phillips) and five sisters (Mavis Phillips Hess, Alma Phillips Goss, Helen Phillips Irby, Vertie Ma Phillips Sevens, Rhodene Phillips Hudson).

She is survived by one child: Linda (Jim) McFaul; five grandchildren: Amy Haynes Polansky, Tracy Haynes Deaver, Keith (Carmen) McFaul, David (Donna) Berkley, and Jason (Rhonda) Haynes; five great-grandchildren: Kenton (Kimberly) McFaul, Carolyn McFaul, Seth Polansky, Molly Deaver, and Kinsey Blake Haynes and enough nieces and nephews to fill Mississippi States football stadium.

She survived the 1918 influenza pandemic, malaria, measles and Hurricane Katrina. She went to be with the Lord while residing in Brandon Court Nursing Home, Brandon MS.

Granny loved her family and telling stories, singing, dancing and entertaining in nursing homes. At 70, she wrote a short memoir “The Book of Erie” to preserve her favorite stories for her family including her first memory: the first time she saw an airplane at age three. The final paragraph states, “I don't know how much time I have left. Only the good Lord knows. I am just occupying ‘til He comes... I don't have no regrets. I'd do it all over again.”

Her matriarchal presence and vivacious personality will be sorely missed.
