Edwin “Ed” Green, 69, went home to be with Jesus Friday, August 20, 2010 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Visitation is 2 – 5 pm today at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland, MS and 10 am Monday, August 23, 2010 at Star Baptist Church in Star, MS. Funeral Services are 11 am Monday, August 23, 2010 from the Star Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Star Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Green was born December 9, 1940 in Morton, MS. He graduated from Morton High School in 1958 and served his country in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga. He attended college at East Central where he played football. He graduated from Delta State and Mississippi College. After graduation from Delta State he began working at
Florence High School as a teacher and a coach. He later served as Principal of Florence High School and later as Director of Transportation for the Rankin County School District. He served in the Rankin County School District for 36 years. Upon retirement he was able to spend more time hunting, fishing, reading, gardening, traveling, attending Church, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a born again Christian who loved God and served Him in his Church, vocation, and in everyday life, which truly illustrated his loving heart.

Mr. Green was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Wilson Green and his mother, Fairrah Belle Green Byrd.

Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Nancy Matthews Green of Florence; two sons, Matthew Wilson Green of Florence and Stephen Kyle Green and his wife, Tina (Day) of Starkville, MS and his two grandchildren, Abigayle Kayla Green and Brayden John Green both of Starkville, MS; and his sister, Jeanette Green Etheridge and her husband, Milton of Pearl, MS; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
