Edward Dale (“Pickle”) Stuart
Dale Stuart, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026. He was the youngest of the nine children of George and Nannie Stuart of Georgetown, Mississippi.
Growing up in Jackson, Mississippi, he attended Hardy Junior High, Provine High School, and Hinds Junior College. Dale participated in many sports, setting a state pole vaulting record while attending Hardy. At Provine he was voted “Most Athletic” his senior year. He attended Hinds on a football/basketball scholarship.
After he and Delores Pennington were wed in January, 1960, he began a job as a carpet installation trainee, soon going out on his own to establish Stuart Carpet Service. He continued this work until age 83.
Also in 1960, Dale began his career with the Jackson Fire Department. He always called it “the best job anyone could have!” After 22 years of service, he retired at the rank of captain.
During Dale’s fireman years, he became a soybean farmer and also raised cattle. He was known as a man who enjoyed his work.
Between 1960 and 1967, Dale and Delores had a son and two daughters, Barry, Kim, and Regan.
Dale became a Christian as a teenager. He and Delores moved their church memberships together to Alta Woods Baptist Church in 1967. He participated in many mission trips in the United States and foreign countries.
In 2008, Dale and Delores retired to the Ozark Mountains, residing in Mountain View, Arkansas, and belonged to First Baptist Church.
By 2018, the family convinced the “mountain lovers” it was time to come home. Moving back to Brandon, they joined Brandon Baptist Church.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, and son-in-law, Larry Keen.
Dale is survived by his wife, Delores Pennington Stuart; son, Barry Stuart (Gay); and daughters, Kim Keen and Regan Wallace. He was very proud of their nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Grandchildren are: Shawn Keen, Brittney Keen, Jared Keen (Lacey), Swayze Slusser (Rob), Staley Beggerly (John), Saige Wallace (Austin Walker), Caitlin Stuart, Lauren Whitmire (Ryan), and Austin Stuart (Val). Great grandchildren are: Halea Keen, Hannah Keen, Hayden Keen, Brody Keen, Ella Jane Keen, Windsor James, Niles Walker, Campbell Dale Beggerly, and Rowan Slusser. Dale is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Brandon Baptist Church, 100 Brandon Baptist Dr. Brandon, MS 39042 (on Highway 80 East), followed by a memorial service for family members only.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church for the upcoming Cuba Mission Trip.
