Dot Montgomery

Dorothy “Dot’ Nell Montgomery, age 86, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from a long hard-fought battle with dementia.

A Celebration of Dot’s Life will be 12:00pm Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Ott and Lee Funeral Home, Brandon. Visitation will begin at 10:00am. Interment will follow in Cato Cemetery.

She was born on May 16, 1936, in Rankin County, MS to the late John Ivy Gill and Elta Lee Grantham Gill.

Dot was a graduate of Hinds Community College. She was a member of Canton Baptist Church. Dot played the piano by ear, enjoying it so much that she played for her church and also played for numerous nursing homes entertaining the residents. She retired after 40 plus years with Bellsouth. Dot was also a licensed Florist. She enjoyed and loved working with flowers, especially when helping with weddings. Dot was the widow of Chancery Judge Ray H. Montgomery of Canton, MS. She loved to travel with Ray.

Dot is survived by her sisters, Helen VanFleet, Alma Jean Mills, and Carolyn (Vic) Dickerson, a host of many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Ray H. Montgomery, ten brothers and sisters.
