Dorothy Nelson, 84, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 28, 1939, in Jackson, MS, to Roy Lawrence and Melba Torrence. She was a proud resident of Pelahatchie and was a faithful member of Rehobeth Baptist Church. She married Mack Nelson on October 28, 1977. Dorothy loved gardening, traveling, journaling and listening to gospel music! Her children and grandchildren were two of her biggest passions.

 

Preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lawrence and Melba Torrence; her two brothers, Richard Lawrence and Donny Lawrence and her late husband, Jimmy Shedd.

 

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Mack Nelson; her children, Terry McNeece(David), Donna Childers(Cameron), Bill Shedd(Michele), Renee Yates(Jeremy), Charlie Nelson(Kathy), Ellis Nelson, 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; her brothers, Roy Lawerence and Rodney Lawrence and many nieces, nephews.

 

Pallbearers will be Jamie Childers, Lance Childers, Josh Childers, Jimmy Shedd, Andrew Fortenberry and Isaiah Yates.

 

Family and friends are invited to Rehobeth Baptist Church, 426 Rehobeth Road, Pelahatchie, MS 39145. Visitation is from 1:00-3:00 on Sunday, January 14th. The funeral will be at 3:00 to reminisce and honor the life of Dorothy Nelson.
