Dorothy Ann "Dot" Griffing Adcox, 86, formerly of Brandon, MS, and most recently of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, passed away early on the morning of Monday, November 2, 2026. She is now at home with the Lord, reunited with her beloved husband, Jesse.
Dot was born on June 1, 1940, in Jackson, MS, the only child of Ernest T. Griffing and Dora Dean Lawrence Morgan. She married the love of her life, Jesse Paul Adcox, and together they raised their son, Paul. After moving to Brandon, they made their home in Le Bourgeois Estates, where Dot lived most of her later life. She truly loved Brandon and her neighbors, and she always considered it her true home.
Dot worked most of her life at South Central Bell/AT&T, retiring early to spend more time with Jesse. They shared a rare and enduring love. When Jesse developed Alzheimer's disease, Dot cared for him at home all the way to the end. It was a herculean task, and she took it on willingly, committed to giving him the highest quality of life, even at the expense of her own. Her devotion to Jesse showed the depth of her love and who she was.
Dot was a woman of faith with a strong relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord. She loved her church, Lakeland Presbyterian Church. She also loved to dance, to socialize, and to spend time with family and friends.
Truly one of the kindest people on the planet, Dot made everyone around her feel welcome and cared for. She treasured her neighbors, first in Le Bourgeois Estates and later in Old Florida Villages ("The Village") in Santa Rosa Beach, FL, where she moved after Jesse's passing to be closer to her son. She had a special love for her nieces and nephews, and she loved her stepsister, Diane Scroggins, and Diane's children, Jimmy Raney and Cindy Raney Tullos, dearly. She adored her granddaughters, Windsor and Ashton, and nothing brought her more joy than time with them. She also loved Paul's high school and college friends and often thought of herself as their second mom.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Paul Adcox, and her parents, Ernest T. Griffing and Dora Dean Lawrence Morgan.
She is survived by her son, Paul Adcox, and his wife, Lynne, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; her granddaughters, Windsor Adcox of Baton Rouge, LA, and Ashton Adcox of Chicago, IL; her stepsister, Diane Scroggins, and Diane's children, Jimmy Raney and Cindy Raney Tullos; her nephews and nieces, Jeffery Greer, Alan Martin, Danny Martin, Amy Adcox, Tracy Adcox Roan, Brian Greer, and Mike Adcox; and many other family members and dear friends.
The family would like to thank Brenda Boyd, Dot's caregiver over the past months, who was especially helpful during this difficult time. We offer a special thank-you to her nephew, Jeffery Greer, who helped care for Dot until she moved to Santa Rosa Beach. Jeffery shared a special bond with Dot, and his love and support meant so much to her and to our family. We are also deeply thankful to her cousin, Roy Lawrence, who sat with Dot in her final moments, bringing comfort and love when it mattered most. We are grateful to her neighbors and friends for their prayers and support during her fight with Parkinson's disease. We also thank the nurses at Ascension Sacred Heart in Miramar Beach, FL, for caring for her with kindness and compassion at the end.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home, 1360 W. Government St., Brandon, MS 39042, on Friday, November 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, and again on Saturday, November 14, from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.
