James “Curtis” Petty, age 86, of Brandon, MS, went to his heavenly home on May 18th, 2025.
He was born on March 29th, 1939, in the Mississippi Delta in the small town of Ruleville, MS. He served in the Air Force for 3 years (1957-1960) and was a dedicated civil engineer starting out in the Mississippi Delta and transferred to Brandon to work for the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 34 years (1967-2001). He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and uncle.
Curtis was very active during his life. He enjoyed fishing and playing card games during his free time. Once he retired, he spent every weekday walking at the track where he never met a stranger. He enjoyed working in his garden during the spring and summer months growing his vegetables to harvest and share with his family and friends. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy.
Curtis was predeceased by his loving wife, Nancy Petty, his parents Abb and Modena Petty, and his brothers, Hester Petty and Garland Petty. He is survived by his daughter Sheila Boling (Scott Boling), sister Joan Pannel, grandchildren Brett Boling (Sarah Boling) and Deanna Carpenter (Michael Carpenter), and 5 wonderful great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in the funeral home chapel with burial immediately following in Crestview Memorial Gardens.
