Clifton Paul Akers, 62, passed away at his home in Brandon, MS on December 31, 2024. Clifton (also affectionally known as “Ton”) was born in Garland, TX on December 29, 1962. He spent his childhood years in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Clifton attended Nettleton (AR) High School where he participated in football and weight lifting and graduated in 1981. He then attended Arkansas State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in political science. While at ASU, he met his wife, Mikako “Mika” Akers. After completing his Master’s degree in 1990, Clifton and Mika moved to the Los Angles California area, where Clifton worked in management for several different companies engaged in the automotive parts and repair industry. In 2005, Clifton, along with his wife Mika and daughter, Megan moved to Brandon, MS. After moving to Brandon, Clifton suffered from kidney failure issues, but by the grace of God, was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant in 2006 and a second kidney transplant in 2023. Although battling kidney failure over the past 18 years, Clifton kept a positive attitude through his humor and pursuing his hobbies of fishing, reading, traveling, spending time with his family, playing pool with his friends, attending church, and especially spending time with his granddaughters. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Clifton was preceded in death by his father, Paul Nathan Akers; mother, Margaret Louise Stella Akers; brother, Charles R. “Rusty” Akers; and sisters Judith E. Hannah and Paula A. Gill.
Clifton is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mikako “Mika” Akers; a daughter, Megan Akers Lawler (Michael) and two grandchildren, Harlie Lawler and Elaina Lawler, all of Brandon, MS; sisters, Carol E. Crain (Garry) of Louisville, TN, Dorothy E. Brady (Mike) of Hazen, AR, Kathy Gray of Brandon, MS, Joyce M. Walker of Carlisle, AR, Elizabeth A. Harrison (David) of Water Valley, MS, and brothers, Charles A. Manuel of Mendenhall, MS and Michael A. Akers (Anita) of Brandon, MS, along with a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sat. Jan. 4, 2024 from 12pm-2pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 2pm Sat. Jan. 4, 2024 at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Brandon, MS.
