Clarence Sellers Smith, a dedicated juvenile corrections officer and former Navy serviceman, passed away on December 22, 2025, in Brookhaven, Mississippi Born on January 24, 1941, in Jackson, Mississippi, Clarence led a life marked by service, both to his country and to his community.
Clarence proudly served in the United States Navy retiring after 30 years of service, embodying the values of dedication and commitment. He earned a degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi, which led him to work as a juvenile corrections officer for the Rankin County Youth Court. His passion for helping young people shaped his career and left a lasting impact on many lives.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lenora Smith, and their children: William Hal Smith (Sally), Chip Smith (Jennifer), and Courtney Shoemaker (Michael). Clarence was also a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandfather to three great-grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Clarence will be remembered by his twin sister, Becky Kergosien (Everett), who held a special place in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Smith and Aura Smith, as well as his sister Claire Nowlin and brother-in-law John Nowlin. Clarence's legacy of kindness, service, and love will continue to resonate within his family and community.
Visitation will be held on December 27, 2025, at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Brandon, Mississippi, from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral service at Holly Bush Cemetery in Pelahatchie, Mississippi.
Clarence Sellers Smith will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His contributions to his family and community will be remembered with gratitude and affection.
