Charlie Douglas "Doug" Ryals

Charlie Douglas “Doug” Ryals, of Braxton, MS, passed away the morning of Friday, November 1st, 2024, at the age of 77. Doug was a graduate of Pearl High School and retired from being a UPS driver for over 30 loyal years. He also served 4 years enlisted in the United States Navy from 1965-1969. His heavenly arrival is preceded by his father, James Orville, and siblings, Caroline Ryals-Guffy & Larry Ryals, and his loyal companion, Tracker.

Doug was known as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a good friend. He is remembered by his wife of 57 years, Linda Ryals, his mother, Evelyn Ryals, and siblings, Danny Ryals, Ken Ryals, and Melanie Powell. They have three loving children, Rita Fimano (Paul), David Ryals (Chrissie), and Christy Smith (Jimmy). Doug also has 6 grandchildren, Faith & Nathan Fimano, Chloe & Carsyn Ryals, and Madelynn & Sarah Wyrick. He is remembered also through his and Linda’s dogs, Little Bear and Sadie Mae, who loved the outdoors just like him.

Doug was known far and wide for a variety of things, but he was always proud of his flowers. He carefully cultivated hundreds of different varieties of Daylilies and other colorful blooms to ensure his family was surrounded by the beauty of nature all year long. The yard he filled with blueberries, persimmons, huckleberries, and more, was the best playground his grandchildren could ever wish for. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and collector of a variety of antiques like Fenton glass. There wasn’t a day Doug wasn’t outside unless the Lord prevented it. No matter rain, snow, or shine, he would be outside on his porch or in his prized flower beds. The last years of Doug’s journey were filled with health battles, but it never stopped him from enjoying time with his family or outdoors.

Doug’s stubborn attitude and level headed outlook on life are things his family and friends will always have in their heart. Our Papaw protected us from everything he could think of, but we never came unprepared. His love of flowers, wild critters, nature, Slim Jims, and MoonPies will forever live on through his loved ones. Till his final days, no bluejay or stray squirrel was safe from his and his loyal wiener dogs' watchful eyes.

Doug's services will be held at Ott & Lee funeral home on Saturday, November 9th at 2 pm in the Chapel. The visitation will be held at 12 pm at Ott and Lee, with a fellowship to follow at Rock Hill Baptist church in the fellowship hall, at 671 Cannon Dr, Brandon Ms. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Cato Volunteer fire department and the Mustard Seed of Mississippi.
