It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffery “Jeff” Jones, a devoted husband, father, pharmacist, teacher, and worship pastor, who entered his heavenly home on October 28, 2024 at the age of 60. Born on October 3, 1964 in Carthage, MS to Waymon and Melba Jones, Jeff lived a life marked by service, love, and unwavering faith.
Jeff served the community of Carthage for many years as a pharmacist, where his compassionate care and dedication to others made a lasting impact. His commitment to helping those in need extended beyond his pharmacy, as he faithfully served as a worship pastor at Leesburg Baptist Church for 18 years. There, he led the Gaither Choir and orchestrated phenomenal programs that beautifully depicted the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. His vibrant spirit and love for worship inspired countless individuals.
After leaving pharmacy, Jeff embarked on a fulfilling career in education, where he instantly fell in love with teaching. He obtained a master’s degree in STEM and taught science at Morton High School, Puckett High School, the Mississippi School for the Blind, and Leake Central High School. His enthusiasm for learning and innovative experiments captivated his students, who cherished him dearly.
A proud graduate of Leake Academy, Jeff attended Holmes Junior College, where he served as an athletic trainer. He continued his education at Mississippi College, playing on the tennis team, and graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he also served as an athletic trainer for the Ole Miss football team. His passion for the Ole Miss Rebels was infectious, and he instilled that love in all his children.
Jeff met the love of his life, Sherry, during a pediatric pharmacy rotation at Batson Children's Hospital. They were married in 1992 at Leesburg Baptist Church, building a beautiful family together with their four beloved children: Parker, Payton, Lillie Kathryn, and Libbie-Claire. He was also a proud grandfather to Easton and Aaron, and eagerly awaited the arrival of Dutton.
Preceded in death by his grandparents Guy and Myrtle Jones and Truman and Ovetta Walley, as well as one grandchild he finally got to meet, Jeff is remembered for his vibrant personality and joyful spirit. He loved people deeply and was always willing to give of himself to help others, whether through a kind word or a helping hand.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; children Parker (Jenna Lynn), Payton (Jenna Nicole), Lillie Kathryn, and Libbie-Claire; grandchildren Easton and Aaron; parents Waymon and Melba Jones; brother Joey (Bobbie) Jones; in-laws Melvin and Jo Ann Parker; sister-in-laws Janice (Tim) Gilbert, Patty (Rodney) Cumberland and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and other family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held 11am on November 2, 2024 at Leesburg Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held 4pm-8pm Friday, November 1, 2024 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton and 10am-11am Saturday at Leesburg Baptist Church.
Donations can also be made to The Gideon’s International online at https://www.gideons.org/ to reflect his commitment to faith and community.
Though he has departed this life, the love, joy, and light he brought to the world will forever resonate in our hearts. We will cherish his memory and carry his legacy forward in our lives.
