Billie Jean May “Jeannie”

Jeannie May, age 78, heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant; Enter into the joy of your Lord,” on Sunday, February 19, 2023. Her life will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Brandon Baptist Church with visitation at 9:00 followed by her service at 11:00. Interment will be 2:30pm at Magee City Cemetery in Magee, Mississippi.

Jeannie was born in Hazlehurst, MS on June 29, 1944, to Billy and Lillian Armstrong. She attended Hazlehurst High School and Co-Lin College, where she met her soulmate, Robert May. They were married on March 27, 1964, and spent nearly 59 devoted and happy years together. Jeannie took pride in her 26-year career at Rankin County Bank and Trustmark where she served with excellence as a customer service representative. And, although she was happy with her work, her true career goal was to be a wife and mother and serve the people who came across her path. She did all of these things with ease and great joy because they came naturally to her. Jeannie enjoyed traveling with Robert and friends across the United States, gardening, cooking, and serving her church where she invested her whole heart as a charter member. She was very proud to serve alongside Robert as a Gideon Auxiliary Member.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Lillian Armstrong, her in-laws, Rob and O’nell May, her brothers, Johnny and Jackie Armstrong, her sister, Margie Lasseter, and a host of friends and loved ones. She is survived by her husband, Robert May, daughters, Rebecca Mitchener (Keith) and Darlene Rayburn (Billy), two beloved granddaughters, Leah Mitchener, Annika Rose and her husband Patrick Rose, as well as siblings, Nellie Noble, Vickie White, and Benson Armstrong, and many dear friends whom she considered her family.

Pallbearers are Rodney Stringer, Billy Henderson, Woody Beckwith, John Woodward, David Oats and Malcolm Loe.
