Betty Laverne Ready, age 85, formerly of Brandon, passed away on March 15, 2025. She was born in McComb, MS on June 28, 1939.
Laverne and her husband, Don, began their marriage living in the Washington DC area. Laverne was employed by the FBI as a fingerprint clerk. They returned to Mississippi where she worked at Rankin General Hospital and a medical clinic in Jackson. She was a member of the Brandon chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron, the highest-ranking office in the chapter.
Laverne and Don embarked on many cross country road trips leading them to stays with friends in far-away states. They enjoyed visiting major landmarks and sites that were off the beaten path. Since this was pre-GPS time, it required the use of numerous paper maps and notes. They covered a lot of memorable miles together during their marriage.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, Marcus and Lucille Hodges; siblings, Clifton Hodges, Evelyn Brown, and Bobby Harold Hodges.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Ready; her daughters, Kay Raymond of Cary, NC and Felicia Wilson (Terry) of Brandon; grandson, Brad Wilson (Anna) of Cincinnati, OH; niece, Doris Johnston of Vicksburg; Betty Barnes of Polaris, MT and close lifelong friends.
The family sends special thanks to Cooperwood Senior Living, Traditions Health Hospice and Covenant Caregivers for the wonderful care and support they provided.
A private service was held at Montgomery Baptist Church Cemetery in Summit, MS.
