Betty Ann Alliston Morrow

Betty Ann Alliston Morrow, (92), passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be Friday, November 21 from 10:00 - 11:30 am at Brandon First Methodist Church in Brandon, followed by a celebration of life at 11:30.

She grew up in the Briar Hill Community outside Florence, MS. She graduated from Florence High School where she loved to play basketball. She was a guard who was picked for her aggressive nature. Who knew? Her brother Joe would call from the stands during the games, “Get’ em sis.” She met her future husband, David, on a blind date. Dad loved to say that he “pulled her out of the woods and put shoes on her feet.” She responded by saying that he forgot her name on their first date! We didn’t’ believe either one of them. In her pre-married years, she was a faithful member of the Briar Hill Baptist Church where she played the piano as a teenager.

After their marriage in 1953, they set up residence in Brandon where dad worked with his father (R. D. Morrow) and his brother (Robert). Children soon followed with David Jr., born in 1955, Susan in 1957 and Bob in 1961.

Our parents lived at Springwater Ranch in Johns, MS for about 20 years, before she moved to Brandon. She always enjoyed going to B illy Burgers in Puckett, Sandy Marin’s store in Johns and Walkers Restaurant in Fondren to eat and more importantly to socialize. She was well known in all those places. When someone would tell us that they knew our mom, we could tell how well they knew her by their next response. If they told us she was “so sweet”, we knew they didn’t really know her, but if they said she was “a character and feisty”, then we knew that they did in fact know her well. We are not saying she was not sweet, but that is not the first adjective that comes to mind when describing her. Other more apt descriptive words might be feisty, loud, laughing, fast driving, and fun loving.

Betty Ann is survived by her children: Susan Pond (Jay), Bob Morrow (Sue-deceased), and

David Morrow, Jr. (Sara); her grandchildren, David Morrow, III (Amanda), Sara Ashley Morrow, Bailey Pond, Adam Pond, Molly Morrow Calleja (Chad), and Nick Morrow, and her great grandchildren, Drew Morrow and Will Morrow. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia Clark (Bo-deceased) and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, David Morrow, Sr., her dad, Joe Alliston, her mom, Jorena Alliston, and her brother, Joe Alliston, Jr. (Mary Ellen-deceased)

Betty Ann was feisty, loud, happy, and smiled and laughed a lot, but most of all loved people. We all cringed when someone would walk up to us and begin the conversation with “your mom said . . .” We never knew what was going to follow.

She had a huge fun side. She loved playing bridge, and she was serious about it. She loved to pick at us and make jokes. You could really get her going if you asked her about politics or Mississippi State vs Ole Miss in any sport. She loved and was loved. In many ways she was larger than life. She leaves a legacy behind that those of us who really knew her won’t forget. We smile when we think of her. She will be missed and leaves a hole in our hearts. She is reunited with dad now and is finally home. She is truly happy now. She did not die; she just stopped dying and really started to live.

Memorials in her memory may be made to the Brandon First Methodist Church, 205 Mary Ann Drive, Brandon, MS 39042.
