Betty Gaskin

Betty Gaskin  Died on September 25, 2026 at her home in Smith County. She died with her family and good friends Bro. Doyle & Mrs. Pat Boyles by her side.  

Betty is preceded in death by her husband (Herman Manuel Gaskin) Of 60 years. Parents Wilmer & Ludie Thornton of Raleigh, Ms.  Twin brother Bobby Royce Thornton of Jackson, Ms. Windell Traxler of Forest, Ms., Mack Wiggins of Pineville, Ms.  

Betty is survived by her 3 children: Melita Gaskin of Forest, Ms., Jeff Gaskin of Forest, Ms., Yolanda Stuart (Michael) of Forest, Ms.  She has 2 grandchildren: Justin Stuart (Schkeara) of Morton, Ms.,  Heather Stuart Welch (Tezoc) of Cooperville, Ms.   6 great grand children. 3 sister- N- Laws Marylyn Wiggins of Pineville, Ms., Barbara Traxler of Forest, Ms., Mary Thornton of Jackson, Ms.Several nieces and nephews.   

Betty graduated from Raleigh High School. Then she got married to Herman & moved to Jackson. She got a job working at Mississippi Valley Gas Company.  After many years they decided to move back home to Goodwater Community.  They became farmers raising cows and they built 3 chicken houses. Betty quit  Her job to take care of her family. She also worked hard to teach her 3 children  How to grow and can vegetables.  She was a member of the Burns Homemakers Club. She was a member of  Goodwater Baptist Church. She did different things in the church to help out.  She loved her church family. She lived a Godly example of what a wife, mother,  Aunt and person should be like. 

The family of Betty Gaskin would like to say a special “Thank you" to Access Hospice of Meridian. Betty's nurse was Jennifer Harris-RNA, Daysha Logan-CNA. Betty looked forward to seeing both of them. Jennifer & Daysha has a sweet personality. Thank you to Access Home & Health out of Forest, Ms.  A special “Thank You” to the Preachers: Bro. Doyle Boyles & Bro. Thomas Harrrison.  Thank you to the musicians Wayne & Joy Thornton.  Thank you to the Pallbearers: Sam Shirley, Justin Beatty, Justin Stuart, Jeremy Maness,  Roderick Currie and Mickey Shirley.  Honorary Pallbearers: Paul Currie, Mike Rogers and Mike Beatty Thank you for fixing moms hair – Hope Westbrook  THANK YOU to everyone that has called, texted, visited, prayed and brought food.
