Mrs. Berta D. Parker Squires, age 95, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 3:15 am at MS Care Center in Morton, MS. She had been a resident of the Leesburg Community for 60 years.
Mrs. Berta D. was born in Eden MS on April 25, 1926, to Billy and Lillie Parker.
In 1944 the family moved to Leesburg and lived on the Joe Dick place.
On August 11, 1945, she, and Earl H. (Bud) Squires were married in the Court House in Rankin County. Bud’s brother, Bryant Jr. (Nookie) and Berta D’s sister Jennie Kate went along as witnesses. As the story goes after the ceremony Nookie turned to Kate and asked her if she wanted to get married and her reply was “why not” so it became a double wedding.
Berta was preceded in death by her husband Earl H. Bud Squires; parents, Billy and Lillie Parker; three brothers, Glover, Fred and Jim Parker; six sisters, Helon Atkinson, Imogene Woods, Margaret Waltman, Jennie Kate Squires, Audrey Goode, and Deniece Jenkins; granddaughter, Wanda Trest Doster; great grandson, Tyler Lamar Gunn, and son-in-law, Jack Lamar Pope.
Survived by her children, Earlene (Charles) Trest, Earnest (Dottie) Squires, Bettie Smith, Sarah Pope, and Barbara (Clark) Stewart; brother, Vernon Melvin (JoAnn) Parker.

8 Great-Great Grandchildren, yes, she was blessed to have 8 Fifth Generations.
Mrs. Berta D was well known for her fried apple tarts and her award-winning chili.
