Anthony (“Andy”) D. Everett

Andy Everett passed away on December 25, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born on February 11, 1945, in Mobile, Alabama, Andy was the only child of James D. Everett and Phoenie L. Everett. He spent his formative years in Chickasaw and McIntosh, Alabama.

Andy attended junior high and high school at University Military School in Mobile, graduating in 1963. He continued his education at the University of Alabama, earned a junior college degree from Marion Military Institute, and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of South Alabama. Later, he attended the Birmingham School of Law and obtained an Executive Management degree from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

Andy met Jill Stone, the love of his life, in January 1970. They were married on June 27, 1970, at Gulfport Baptist Church. Over their 55 years together, they built a loving family in the cities where Andy worked. They traveled for business and for pleasure, including drives through the western United States. Andy liked to drive and see the country, especially if he was going to see family.

Andy began his career at Super Stores, Inc. as a buyer but quickly moved to the insurance industry for the remainder of his working career. Andy joined U.S.F. & G. Insurance Company in Birmingham, Alabama, as an Underwriting Trainee on May 11, 1970, and never looked back. His career progression included Underwriting Manager for Casualty in 1973, Assistant Branch Manager - Atlanta in 1982, Vice-President and Branch Manager - Cincinnati in 1985, Branch Manager - Indianapolis in 1991, and Branch Manager - Jackson, Mississippi in October 1992. In 1993, Andy became Regional President of U.S.F. & G. - Mississippi Region, and President of U.S.F. & G. Insurance Company of Mississippi. Under his leadership, U.S.F & G. Insurance Company of Mississippi expanded its operations to twenty-six states. When U.S.F.&G. merged with St. Paul in 1998, Andy served as Regional President of St. Paul Insurance - Mississippi Region until his retirement in 2002. Coming out of retirement in 2003, Andy worked as Vice President for Market Development at Stewart, Sneed, Hewes Insurance/BancorpSouth Bank before retiring in 2011.

Andy served many insurance organizations, including serving as President of the Mississippi Windpool Underwriting Association and Vice Chair of the Mississippi Rural Risk Underwriting Association. Insurance regulators, agents and agency managers, and legislative leaders valued his expertise and advice. In 2006, Andy was honored with induction into the Mississippi State University Insurance Hall of Fame.

Andy enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, and participating in church work. Andy was a member of Pinelake Church in Brandon, Mississippi, since 2008. At Pinelake Andy served as a greeter, worked at the Care Center, was on the Prayer Ministry Team and a longtime member in his Sunday School Group. Andy was a man of strong religious and moral beliefs, and he would not hesitate to set a tone. He was generous with his time and possessions. Andy was known for his unwavering integrity and warmth, touching the lives of countless people throughout his career and personal life. If it was the right thing to do, Andy never hesitated.

He was the “organizer” of many, many hunting and fishing trips, always keeping things in order and moving. He loved to take his friends and business associates fishing and hunting, and the stories of these adventures remain in the hearts of his comrades.

Late in life, one of his greatest joys was sitting in the deer stand with Mason and Cohen, two of his grandsons. He was their good luck charm, as both of them killed their biggest deer while hunting with Andy.

Most of all Andy was a leader. People believed in Andy and followed him. Andy Everett will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Phoenie Everett. Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Jill; his children, Daniel Everett (Elizabeth), and Leigh Taylor (Alec); his grandchildren, Jack Everett (Liz Harbin), Cate Everett (Griffin Miller), Cohen Taylor, and Mason Taylor; and great-grandson baby Oliver Everett, and many cousins.

A visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, at the Venue at Pinelake Church in Brandon.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone at Baptist Hospice that helped with Andy’s care, especially Andy’s nurse April.
