Edith Lovitt

February 11, 1929 — May 16, 2023

Brandon, MS

Edith Mae Myers Lovitt of Brandon, MS passed away peacefully on May 16, 2023, at Chateau Pines Assisted Living in Brandon, MS.  Edith never told her age; she thought it was rude to ask. She was born on February 11, 1929, in Rankin County, MS in the Antioch community. We can now announce she was 94 years young.

In 1947 she married Ott Lovitt and they were partners in life for over 58 years.

Edith graduated from Puckett High School and then Draughon’s Business College in Jackson, MS. She began her career as an administrative assistant for the Mississippi Forestry Commission and took great pride in serving as an administrative assistant to the Executive Director of the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration for over 40 years. She dressed with sophistication and was never seen without her makeup, nails, and hair professionally done. No one has ever seen a grey hair on her head. She was organized, witty, and straight forward.

Once she retired, you could find her walking 3 miles a day in her neighborhood, going to hear music, watering her flowers, attending church events multiple times a week, traveling to Branson or Nashville, and handing out those beloved demo tastings at Kroger. She loved people, her family, and Jesus.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gaddis H. Myers and Polly C. Williams Myers, her husband James Ottis Lovitt, her big sister Doris Christine Myers Everitt, brother-in-laws’ Thomas L. Pace and Robert Everitt, and her dog Bozo.

She is survived by her sister Carolyn “Faye” L. Pace and her brother Joe Gaddis Myers (Marlene). She deeply loved her nieces, nephews, grands, and their families.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon, MS with a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM.  Edith has been an active member of this church since 1992. Burial will be at Antioch Baptist Church in Pelahatchie, MS, the church of her childhood. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS is handling arrangements.
