Mr. Sol A. Davis, Jr. age 89, a resident of the Branch Community in Scott County went to be with his heavenly father on July 6, 2020 at home surrounded by his family.

His visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 12pm-2:45pm   at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton, immediately followed by funeral services at 3pm in the Ott & Lee Chapel.  Burial will be at Groveton Presbyterian Church Cemetery.   There will be NO Graveside services.  Bro. Billy Ray Parker will officiate the services.

Mr. Davis was born on October 20, 1930 in the Branch Community to Sol A. Davis, Sr. and Bertha Irby Davis. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters- Lois Davis Smith, Catherine Davis Richardson, Mary B. Davis Wooten, one brother- Sam Davis, and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lois Shoemake Davis; sons- Danny (Charlotte) Davis, Mark (Angie) Davis; daughters- Tammy Hines, Jo Ann (Chris) Grimsley; grandchildren- Heather Davis, Ashley (Brady) Goolsby, Justin (Megan) Davis, John “Jay” (Kristen) Lawrence, Breana Grimsley, Caitlin Hill; great-grandchildren- Heath Davis, Krew Davis, Maddie Goolsby, Allie Goolsby, Ian Lawrence, Jacob Lawrence, MacKinzey Wilbanks, Raine Hill, Riley Hill and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mr. Davis attended school in the Branch Community. After high school, he went to work in the oil fields in Texas. While working in Texas, he was drafted to the Army and spent most of his service time in Germany. He retired with 35 plus years of service from Sperry Vickers in Ridgeland, MS. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, drinking coffee at the country store and going to eat with his friends.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a dedicated Christian and loved his Lord, church, and church family.

The family would like to express their appreciation to St. Joseph’s Hospice staff, especially Amber and Courtney.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Davis, Shannon Davis, David Lane Davis, Robby Wooten, Dallas Porter, William Porter and Dan Wooten. Honorary pallbearers will be Otis Ray Davis, Samuel Davis, Talmage Davis, Billy Wooten, O. J. Russell, Leon Harrell, Jimmy Withers, and Butch Lingle.
