Mable “Ruth” Crane Cannon, age 93, a long-time resident of Smyrna, Georgia and most recently of Brandon and Richland, Mississippi was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 1, 2020.

She was the loving and devoted mother of Dr. C. Ron Cannon and wife Beth of Brandon, Mississippi and Marcia Cannon of Smyrna, Georgia. She was also the proud grandmother of four grandsons, Ron Cannon Jr. and wife Katie of Brandon, Mississippi, Cory Cannon and wife Michelle of Asheville, North Carolina, Dr. Rob Cannon and wife Lauren of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Phillip Gann of Atlanta, Georgia. She was also the very proud great-grandmother of six great-grandchildren, Lila Shae and Hannah Cannon of Brandon, Mississippi and Annie, Bo and Craig Cannon of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Jude Cannon of Asheville, North Carolina.

She was proceeded in death by her parents. James T. Crane and Virgie Emmons Crane and siblings Ouida Liber (Joe), Charles Crane (Lorene), James Crane (Sara), Grace Stokes (Curtis), Doris Liber (Jim). She is survived by her sister Murriel Harris (Alton) of Milton, Florida and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

She was born on December 6, 1926, the sixth child of seven siblings to a very close and loving family in the Good Hope community near Lake, Mississippi. She was always proud to be a part of the James T. Crane family and felt blessed to have had wonderful Christian parents and a large family of caring, loving brother and sisters. She graduated Valedictorian from Good Hope High School and attended East Central Junior College in Decatur, Mississippi where she graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree. While she was at East Central Junior College she played girls basketball and was the President of the Future Teachers of America Club. She always wanted to be a teacher so after she graduated from East Central Junior College, she then attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education and was certified to teach elementary school.

She was a loving and dedicated teacher who taught both high school and elementary school for 32 ½ years before retiring in 1986. She taught various grades and subjects in both Mississippi and Florida while she put her husband through medical school and taught third grade at Brown Elementary School in Smyrna, Georgia for 18 years. Third grade was always her favorite grade to teach.

She was a devout Christian and was an active and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia for 48 years. She served as an Outreach Leader and group captain in her Sunday School class for many years and enjoyed the many friendships she made with the members of her Sunday School class.

She devoted her life to her family and was always proud to be a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She loved to garden and always had a vegetable garden and loved to grow as many different kinds of flowers as possible in her yard and she was always happy to share what she grew or give cuttings from her many plants to friends in Smyrna. She loved all kinds of crafts and was always busy doing some thing, she didn’t like to be idle. She had unquestionable character and integrity and a deep and abiding love for God and her family.

A private Celebration of her Life Service will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home on September 5, 2020 followed by interment at Good Hope Baptist Church in Lake, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the First Baptist Church of Smyrna, Georgia.
