Milton Gage Walker

Milton Gage Walker, 78, passed away Sat. Jan. 9, 2021 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS. A graveside service will be held at 3:30pm on Wed. Jan. 13, 2021 at Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS is handling arrangements.

Dr. Walker was born on Oct. 3, 1942 in Trion, GA to the late Solon L. Walker Sr. and Mary Gage Walker. He attended Mississippi College where he played baseball and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. Dr. Walker taught and coached at West Marion, Natchez and Forest High Schools and was a principal at Clinton High School. While working at MSU he earned his Doctorate of Education.  Dr. Walker was also the Superintendent of Education for the Columbia Public School District, was the Executive Director of the Mississippi Public Employees Retirement System, was a professor at Belhaven College, was the Executive Vice President of Glynn Griffing & Associates and was the owner of Milton Walker & Associates. Over the course of his coaching and educational career, he had a positive effect on the lives of so many.

Dr. Walker was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Brandon where he taught Sunday School and served on several committees. He loved teaching the Word of God and impacted many lives. Pops loved his children and grandchildren. He spent countless hours supporting them in their sporting events and various activities. Dr. Walker also loved entertaining at his home and “Pops Place” at Smith Lake.

He is survived by his two daughters, Stacey McCann (Steve) and Christi Walker; two sons, Gage Walker (Carrie) and Brent Walker (Katie); sister, Carolyn Waters and 9 grandchildren, Andrew McCann, Addy McCann, Cailey Walker, Lainey Walker, Emmie Walker, Lela Walker, William Walker, Maggie Walker and James Walker. Mr. Walker is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Josie Summer Walker and a brother, Solon L. Walker Jr.

In lieu of flowers, all memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Brandon or Hartfield Academy in his memory.
