Ludora Hawkins

Mrs. LuDora Hawkins, age 80 and a lifelong resident of the Burns community died Wednesday January 30, 2019 at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Sunday  February 3, 2019 form the Providence Lutheran Church in Burns with interment to follow in the church cemetery.  Rev. Daniel Jackson, Rev. Robert Hallman and Rev. Carey Bass will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 5pm-8pm Saturday February 2, 2019 at the OTT & LEE Funeral Home in Forest.

Mrs. Hawkins was born  on Sunday August 21, 1938  in Smith County to her parents George Hallman, Sr. and Inez Caldwell Hallman.   She  had been a member of the Providence Lutheran Church for many years.  She served in various areas of the church.  She had been Secretary for the Church Cemetery for over 40 years.  She was a member of the Burns Homemakers Club.  Mrs. Hawkins was a people person.   Mrs. Hawkins was one of the most genuine people who loved the Lord, her family, and especially her grandchildren and neighborhood children.  She enjoyed devoting hours of her time pouring compassion into children whom loved her just as much. She was an excellent cook and provided a home cooked meal every Sunday after church with an open door policy.  She also loved gardening, canning and taking care of her chickens.  She was most definitely one of the strongest women and her cheery and optimistic attitude was infectious among her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over 62 years, DeWitt Hawkins, a son DeWayne Hawkins and a grandson, Craig Hawkins.

Survivors include  her four sons, George Hilton Hawkins (Cindy) of Burns, Benjamin Lewis Hawkins, Robert Allen Hawkins both of Pulaski  and James Alvin Hawkins of Burns.  She is also survived by her brother, George Hallman, Jr. of Burns and a legacy of six grandchildren; April Moore (Charlie),  Josh Hawkins (Brittany), Adam Hawkins, Austin Hawkins, Rachel Hawkins, Taylor Hawkins, two great-grandchildren; Beau Hawkins and Elizabeth Yeager.

Pallbearers are  Hilton Hawkins, Benjamin L. Hawkins, Robert Allen Hawkins, James Alvin Hawkins, Adam Hawkins, Austin Hawkins and Josh Hawkins.
