James Towns, Iii "Jim"

James Arthur Towns III, “Jim” a resident of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on December 22, 2020. A COVID-friendly burial for the immediate family was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 24th at the Crestview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Brandon. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date. Jim Towns was born on October 10, 1948 to Nevelon Shaw Towns and James Arthur Towns Jr. in Vidalia, GA. He grew up on a farm in Georgia with his pet pig and was raised by his grandparents who he called Mama Towns and Pap. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and bravely served his country in Vietnam. Jim graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Georgia State University. He began his career in the banking industry in Georgia before becoming partner and chairman of the board for Resource One Inc., a software company based in Commerce, Georgia. His career in the technology industry allowed him to travel and acquired the title of million-miler. From his modest upbringing to his successful careers in technology and later financial planning. Jim had a genuine heart, admirable personality, and an incredible demeanor. His clients and business partners as well as fellow travelers became his dear friends. He is affectionately known as “Dee” to his daughter and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and watching his six grandchildren grow up. Jim acquired over 35 years of experience in the financial industry and for 25 years he served as partner and chairman of a software company specializing in serving the financial industry in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He was a financial advisor for Sound Financial Strategies Group for 13 years. Jim met his wife, Sharon, at a Resource One conference in Savannah, Georgia in 2001. On February 16, 2002, he married Sharon Lee Faust of Crystal Springs, MS. On April 27, 2003, Jim and Sharon welcomed their daughter into the world and named her Savannah after the city where they met and fell in love. He spent his last 18 years in Brandon, MS with his wife and daughter and welcomed Anakin Towns, the golden retriever, to his home in 2019. Jim Towns had a vast array of hobbies including astronomy, chess, reading, solving puzzles, playing tennis, and traveling as well as collecting coins, books, fossils, and knives.  He was a certified divemaster and loved to scuba dive in the Caribbean and off the coast of Florida.  He had a love for the Star Wars, Marvel and DC comic films.  He traveled internationally with his daughter, Savannah, to London, Paris, Switzerland, Germany and all over Peru where he completed his life-long dream of hiking up Machu Picchu.  He often traveled with both his wife and daughter, and occasionally his sister Nancy, across the United States.  Jim Towns was known to many people as a very well-rounded spirit with the dedication and hard work of a leader.  He was admired by everyone he met and was a role model and hero to his daughter. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Arthur Towns, Jr. and Nevelon Shaw Towns, his brother Larry Towns, and sister Sandra Towns Parr of Georgia.  He is survived by his wife, Sharon Lee Towns, his children Savannah Towns, Stephen Sims, (Rachel Sims) of Hattiesburg, MS, Daniel Sims, (Mary Sims) of Madison, MS, his sister Nancy Gatlin of Georgia, his grandchildren Harper Lee Sims, Wailes Sims, Sally Sims, Graham Sims, Joy Sims and Rosemary Sims, his nieces and nephews, Cecil Harris (Jenny Harris), James Towns, Patricia Towns, Michele Gulley (Jon Gulley), Allison Garcia of Georgia, and his great nieces and nephews.
