George H. Quinn

George H. “Sonny” Quinn, 78, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, May 13, 2019 at his residence. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 from 5pm-8pm at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Funeral Services are 12pm on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the First Baptist Church Brandon, MS West Campus with burial to follow at the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS.

Sonny was born to the late Floyd and Mable Quinn in Yazoo City, MS on Dec. 30, 1940. He grew up in Jackson, MS where he graduated from Central High School in 1960. He served our country in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he began his career in construction. He had started in construction with his father at the age of 12. Sonny and his family moved to Brandon, MS in 1972 where they still reside. He built many homes in Jackson and Brandon. Sonny continued his building career until 1998. When he retired from construction, he joined his wife in the floral business until 2017 when they both retired.

Sonny was an active member of First Baptist Church Brandon, MS where he served on the deacon body. He taught Sunday School for many years and had a tremendous influence on many young people in Brandon.  Sonny went on many mission trips with FBC. He served on the Hospital Visitation Team and was an active member of the Gideon’s. One of his greatest joys was passing out Bibles to children in school.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Mary Quinn; three daughters, Melissa Knight (Tommy), Nancy Fagan (John) and Renee Laird (Brian); five grandchildren, Katy Tomlinson (Will), Ryan Knight, Ashleigh Fagan, Baileigh Fagan and Josh Laird; one great grandchild, Hannah Grace Tomlinson and a sister, Merle Dahl. He is also preceded in death by his two sisters, Betty Lou Day and Nancy Quinn and three brothers, Bobby, Charles and Donnie Quinn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brandon Gideon’s at P.O. Box 324 Brandon, MS 39043 or to the First Baptist Church Brandon, MS building fund at 309 College St. Brandon, MS 39042.
