Charles Woodson Scarborough

October 7, 1952 — April 22, 2021

Brandon, MS

Charles W. (Woody) Scarborough, 68, went home to Jesus April 22, 2021.

Services will be Tuesday, April 27, beginning with a visitation time at 1:00 pm with services at 2:00 pm at Oakdale Baptist Church, 1872 MS-471, Brandon, MS. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS is handling arrangements.

Woody was born to Rev Howard and Mrs. Helen Scarborough on October 7, 1952. He graduated from Provine High School, Jackson, Mississippi in 1970. Woody later joined the United States Army and proudly served his country as a Military Policeman in Vicenza, Italy, plus 10 more years in the Army Reserves.

In 1993 Woody married the love of his life, Malinda Scarborough. He was fond of saying that God used an earthquake to bring him from California back to Mississippi just to meet Malinda.  After a rose-filled courtship in the McCoy Federal Building where Malinda worked, He won over the hearts of Malinda and her Seeing Eye dog, Dory.  Woody and Malinda married on November 20 in West Point, Mississippi and subsequently enjoyed 27 wonderful years together.

Woody worked for the US Forest Service in Jackson from 1995 to 2018.

Woody’s pleasant demeanor and servant heart allowed him to befriend many in his community and neighborhood where he was fondly known as Mr. Woody.  After his retirement, Woody spent many hours sitting on his front porch where he waved and spoke to passers-by. He enjoyed serving his neighbors in many ways, but he also had a great love for taking care of the area hummingbirds by providing them with multiple feeding stations in his yard.  His ministry of serving men and nature will be greatly missed.   Woody and Malinda are long-time members of Oakdale Baptist church where they had sung in the choir together, worked with the food bank, and in other areas where they could be of service to the Kingdom of God.

Woody was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Howard and Mrs. Helen Scarborough. Survivors include his wife, Malinda, his brother, Edgar, and wife, Beth, his uncle, Preston Scarborough, his Aunt Willie Rea (Weezy) Scarborough, and his nieces Christy Edwards and Jennifer Scarborough.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors of Mississippi, 1357Wade Patrick Rd, Brandon, MS 39042.
