Bobbie Miles Sherrod, retired educator, gained her Heavenly Wings June 15, 2021 at The Arbor Nursing Home in Ridgeland, MS where she had been a resident for 4 years June 2021.   Visitation will be held 8:00 am-9:15 am Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.  Graveside services are 10:00 AM at the Pulaski, MS Family Cemetery.  Officiating will be Pastor Danny Lanier, Northcrest Baptist Church, Meridian, MS.  Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton, MS is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sherrod was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Sherrod, in 1999.  She was the daughter of the late Maudine Alford and George W. Miles of Pulaski.  Mrs. Sherrod was a strong advocate of education and spent 48.5 years of her life working with students in Mississippi.  She taught 1 year at Burns Elementary; 2 years at Pulaski Elementary; 13 years at Union Elementary; and 2 years at Northeast Elementary, where she became principal and remained in that position until 1987.  In 1987 she was appointed to Assistant Superintendent of Education for Lauderdale County Schools.  In 1991 she retired.  From 1993-1998 she served on the Lauderdale County School Board.

Mrs. Sherrod was an active member of the Fidelis Chapter of ADK and a member of the East Central Retired Educators.

As a Charter Member and faithful servant of Northcrest Baptist Church, Mrs. Sherrod taught Sunday School for a number of years and served on various committees in the church.

She received her BS degree in elementary education from then Mississippi Southern College and a Master of Education and Specialist in School Administration from the University of West Alabama.

She served on the Marion, MS Board of Alderman from July 3, 1989 to April 14, 1992 and from 2001 to 2013.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Miles Nelson (Sharell) of Jackson, MS; one nephew, Mike Miles of Decatur and three nieces, Jessica Leverette (Jay) of Jackson, Cheryl Nutt (Jimmy) and Michelle Beard (Bill) of Morton; great nephews Locke Leverette, Flowood, MS and Bryan Nutt, Morton, MS; and three great nieces, Miles Taylor Leverette, of Jackson, Brittnay Nutt and Shellie Squires of Morton.  Mrs. Sherrod had many relatives, friends, educators and students who were faithful throughout her lifetime, as well as Sherrod family members.

Honorary Pallbearers are:  Mike Miles, Billy Mack Miles, Jay Leverette, Locke Leverette, Bryan Nutt, Gabe Nutt, Jimmy and Jay Hollis, Tommy Sherrod and Mason Crenshaw (who, along with his spouse, Joan, introduced Jesse and Bobbie Sherrod).

A special heartfelt thanks from her sister, Martha, to all her caregivers and Administrators for the love and devotion to Mrs. Sherrod over the years at home, in The Orchard Assisted Living and The Arbor Nursing Home in Ridgeland, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northcrest Baptist Church, 3412 North Hill St., Meridian, MS 39301, Pulaski Cemetery Fund, c/o Steve Shepherd, 238 Dominion Parkway, Brandon, MS 39042 or a charity of choice.
