Betty Jean Walker

Betty Jean McKinion Walker was born Feb. 15, 1946 in Union, MS to Howard and Birdie Byram McKinion. She received her Angel Wings on Jan. 17, 2021 due to complications from Covid 19. She was the loving wife of C.D. Walker for 28 years. They, along with their beloved German Shepherds, Sadie and Axle, have resided in Florence, MS for the past 26 years.

Betty graduated from Forest High School in 1964 and was a team member on the Mississippi All-State Basketball squad. She attended East Central Community College, and the University of Southern Mississippi, where she graduated with a degree in Computer Programing. Betty worked for the State of Mississippi as a System Analysis Manager until she retired in 1998. She then began a second career with Blue Cross of Mississippi, where she worked for many years.

Betty loved the Lord and attended Hickory Ridge Baptist Church for many years. She was loved by all of her Church family. She was unable to attend in-person services for the last several years due to health issues but was consistently checking in with those in need of prayer.

Betty had numerous talents which included cooking, sewing, and cross-stitch. Some of her best qualities were just being the best Daughter, Sister, Wife, Aunt and Friend any family could ever ask for.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Birdie McKinion of Forest; brother, Johnny McKinion and great-nephew, Cash Medders.

Betty is survived by her husband, C.D. Walker of Florence; sisters, Sue Wedgeworth (Andy) of Homewood, Dianne Hunter (Darrell) of Lena; sisters-in-law, Linda McKinion of Brandon, Katie Shelton (Freddie) of Brookhaven, Elizabeth Lea (Ronnie) of Brookhaven, Rosemary Litchworth (Gerrell) of Brookhaven; mother-in-law, Paula Walker of Brookhaven; step-children, Jennifer Whitaker of Brookhaven, Chad Walker of New Orleans; nieces, Lynn Repsher (Brad) of Columbia, MD, Christy French (Kevin) of Brandon, Elisa Medders of Brandon; nephews, Johnny McKinion (Due) of Pelahatchie, Scott McKinion (Liza) of Brandon, Jayson Jones (Tommie) of Lena; two step-granddaughters; eight great-nephews and four great-nieces.

The celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 11am on Fri. Jan. 22, 2021 at Hickory Ridge Baptist Church in Florence, MS with burial to follow in the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Brandon, MS. Pallbearers will be her great-nephews. Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS is handling arrangements.
