Abbie Rogers

August 3, 1931 — November 30, 2019

Brandon, MS

On November 30 Ruth relocated to her heavenly home and is now face to face with Jesus to Whom she gave her life as Lord and Savior long ago.  A native of the Nanih Waiya community in Winston County, she met her beloved husband, Pat in 1956, and they were married April 7, 1957.  She later graduated from Mississippi State University with a Master’s degree in Library Science and spent many years serving as librarian at East Mississippi Jr. College in Scooba where she also served as a Phi Theta Kappa sponsor.  After Pat’s retirement in 1986 they participated together in short-term mission trips to Rochester, N.Y., served under the North American Mission Board, SBC for one year in America Samoa, served as directors for Tampa Bay Baptist Conference Center for six months, served under the International Mission Board (IMB), SBC for six months in Zimbabwe and two years in Honduras, and served as active volunteers for Macedonian Call Foundation of Mississippi, an organization that provides vehicles for IMB missionaries on stateside assignment.  Wherever she and Pat lived they participated actively in the life and ministry of their church.  Until her move to the Nanih Waiya community in Winston County after Pat’s death in 2018, she had been a faithful member of Flowood Baptist Church for ten years.  After her move she joined Harmony Baptist Church, but soon after broke her pelvis, was admitted to Winston County Nursing Home, and was never able to return to her home and to her new church family.  The regular visits she received at the nursing home from Harmony’s pastor, Bro. Lundy, were very meaningful to her and greatly appreciated by her family.

Ruth loved and excelled in her hobbies of sewing, quilting, and crocheting and was a past member of the Mississippi Craftsmen Guild for her crochet.

Ruth invested the gift of time in the lives of her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and their families who all count it as a rich blessing to have known and experienced being loved by their Aunt Ruth.

Ruth is survived by her sister Bonnie Cunningham (Wallace), sister-in-law Bobbie Rogers Mulrooney, and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband Pat Maloy Rogers, parents Clay and Nettie Richardson, brothers Ellis Richardson, Edgar Richardson, and Elvin Richardson, nephews Milton Richardson and Jimmy Rogers, and niece Sue Byrd Dickens.
