Obituary

Trevor Michael Woods, age 38, of Brandon, passed away peacefully at his home on January 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Trevor was born on February 13, 1987, in Jackson to Michael Travis and Joy (Gladney) Woods. He was their second son, born just one year after his older brother, Travis, who was like a twin to him. Seven years later, his younger brother, Tanner, was born. He found much joy in his family, being with his friends, and doing the things he loved. All knew of his love for baseball, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He graduated from Brandon High School, where he proudly played baseball, and later from Mississippi State University, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Trevor was known as a kind soul—hard-working, intelligent, strong, loyal, and firm in always striving to do what was right.

In his third year at Mississippi State University, he met Jessica Jones in a mutual class. She would later sit in an empty seat next to him at a basketball game, which led to their next nineteen years together. They were married on June 23, 2012, and made their first home in Brandon. Trevor worked tirelessly for Tower Loan for many years, eventually becoming the manager of the super branch in Columbus. As devoted Mississippi State fans, Trevor and Jessica later moved to Starkville, where Trevor worked for ServiceMaster Restoration. While living in Starkville, their hearts were filled with joy when their daughter, Tenley Rose, was born. They treasured their time as a family, enjoying season tickets to Mississippi State football and baseball games and sharing their love for the university and town together.

When Tenley was eighteen months old, they returned to Brandon. Trevor began working with his father at Woods Tech Supply in Pearl—a business started years earlier by his grandfather. Trevor and his father enjoyed working together, spending spare time talking about hunting and fishing on their family land and working on anything related to these favorite hobbies. Many conversations began with, "Did you see that deer we got on camera?" One of his biggest joys was when Tenley got her first buck while they were in the stand together. From that day on, he kept her picture with her buck as his phone wallpaper. His face would light up every time talking about her, beaming with pride as her father. She is not only an amazing dancer, student, friend, and daughter, but she also loves the outdoors and hunting as he did. He loved being able to share that with her.

In January 2023, Trevor’s life changed dramatically when he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, a rare form known as NUT carcinoma. He and Jessica fought this horrible disease locally at Jackson Oncology with great success for a year and a half. In May 2024, they traveled to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, to seek specialized research trials for NUT carcinoma. The Lord graciously opened a door to a trial at MD Anderson that helped keep his cancer stable for almost another year. Trevor and Jessica are forever thankful for their entire medical team and all the nurses, staff, and doctors who helped identify his diagnosis and guide his treatments for almost three years, long past what the statistics said. They felt God's presence wherever they went and knew it was all in His hands. They were blessed by and are forever grateful for the wonderful people at Jackson Oncology Associates, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and St. Dominic Hospital.

Trevor is survived by his wife, Jessica Woods; daughter, Tenley Woods (10); parents, Mike and Joy Woods; brother, Travis Woods (Whitney) nieces, Mary Gwen and Betsy, and nephews, Walt and Jack; brother, Tanner (Madeline) and niece, Lainey; his grandmothers Hilda Jo Woods and Gloria Gladney; and an abundance of other family members and friends whom he dearly loved and who loved him in return.

Trevor was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Jackson, where he and his family found encouragement, prayer, and a loving church home throughout his life and especially during his illness. In addition, a prayer group on Facebook was formed by his aunt, Shellie Woods Slay, when Trevor was first diagnosed. His family would like to thank everyone who joined that group, prayed, supported, and loved them during these past unimaginably difficult three years. Trevor and Jessica kept a strong faith throughout his cancer journey and knew God was always with them. They wanted to share God's love and their story with others, not only for the prayers, but also to help others. The Facebook group of prayer warriors helped them do so, but it also helped lift their spirits and gave them strength through all the difficult times of battling cancer. They also want to thank those who may not have been a part of the Facebook group but prayed alongside them without ceasing.

Trevor knew where he was going when he left this earth and is now rejoicing, fully healed, in Heaven, walking the streets of gold beside his King. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." -John 3:16
