Sue Clark Frothingham, beloved mother, Director Emeritus of Community Counseling Center, Greenville Mississippi, peacefully departed from this world on July 16, 2016, at the age of 89.
Visitation will be held at Ott & Lee Funeral Home Brandon, MS on July 23, 2026 beginning at 9am with a service of remembrance at 11am. We cordially invite all who knew and loved Sue to join us in celebrating her life that touched so many hearts.
Sue was born March 1, 1937 in East St. Louis, IL. She grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and lived 38 years in Greenville Mississippi where she raised her children, was active in church life at First Baptist Church of Greenville MS where she also was employed before achieving her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. Sue became a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor, and ultimately attained the position of Director of Counseling Services at Community Counseling Center Greenville, MS serving 30 years in that position to improve the mental health outcomes for the diverse population of residents of the Mississippi Delta. She was a frequent contributor to televised programs viewed across the Mississippi Delta Region highlighting important mental health information. She was also a long serving member of the church choir at FBC, Greenville and performed with the Red Cross Chorus as part of their yearly fundraiser from the 1980s to the 2000s.
Sue grew up in New Orleans where her father, Ted R. Clark, Th.D, was a beloved professor of divinity at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Upon graduating from Mississippi College with honors and receiving the award in Secretarial Sciences she was employed with the DOJ in the New Orleans division of the FBI’s secretarial pool until her marriage and move to Jackson, MS. She continued to live and work in diverse academic settings as librarian at UMMC Rowland Medical Library, Jackson, MS and the Duke University Medical Center Library, Durham, NC before returning to Jackson, MS to take a job as Administrative Assistant to the UMMC Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Ted R. Clark, and Lois Alexander Clark of Edinburgh, TX. She is survived by her children, Gwendolyn S. Frothingham of Athens, GA and Rodney E. Frothingham, III of Brandon, MS. Her loving presence and guidance will be missed by all of those whose lives she touched.
