Rosie M. Richardson Manning, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved member of the Polkville and Morton communities, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, in Polkville, Mississippi. Born on May 15, 1948, in Morton, Mississippi, Rosie’s life was a testament to love, faith, and generosity, touching all who had the privilege to know her.
Rosie was known for her remarkable talents and kindness. An avid cross-stitcher, her unique art was so admired that former President George W. Bush and President Donald J. Trump each possess cross-stitched pictures created by her skilful hands. Beyond her artistry, Rosie was a gifted crocheter and sewer, a great cook, a devoted dog lover, and a passionate gardener who delighted in tending to her beautiful roses.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected in her daily journals filled with encouraging Bible verses and heartfelt notes about her family and experiences. She lovingly shared these daily verses with many, spreading hope and comfort. Among the many profound expressions of her love are her own words written in her journals: written March 14, 2008 “I Rosie Manning am the richer woman on earth because I have a husband who loves me and the children, grandchildren, and sisters who love me very much.” On November 1, 2010, she wrote, “Dear Loved ones, I have loved you all my life. If I should die my love is for eternal. When you think of me, just close your eyes and I'll be there with you.” wrote on December 13, 2001 To her daughters, Denise and Melissa, she tenderly penned, “My Little Girls, I remember when you were my little girls...But in my heart you will always be my Little Girls.” Her last journal post was a Bible verse that was very dear to her, "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. (1 John 4:4 NIV).
Rosie’s enduring love is carried on by her loving husband, Eddie Thomas "Tommy" Manning of Polkville; her four dear children: Kevin Dwayne Hopkins of Huntsville, Alabama; Denise R. Lott and her husband Shannon of Madison; Paul Wesley Hopkins of Polkville; and Melissa Darlene Bynum and her husband James C. "Clay" Bynum III of Magee. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren—Dexter (Dex) Keaton Hopkins, Joshua Tyler Hopkins, Reid Matthew Lott, Wesley Ryan Wilkinson, Skylar Xan Harrison McCrory (Joshua), Nicholas Thomas Bynum (Donna), Ashley Bynum Hillman (John Thomas "Bo"), and Justin Blake Crane (Brittany)—and a joyous great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren: Anna Keaton, Logan Kathryn, Savannah Rose, Adeline Mae, Lily Ann, Madeliene Rose, Gryphon Ashtohn, Kimber Marie, and Kaison Blake. Rosie also leaves behind her sisters, Margaret Louise McMillian of Goodhope; Patricia Ann (Patty) Hollingsworth and her husband Hugh of Brandon; and Teresa Carol Priest and her husband Tony of Crystal Springs, along with a host of many friends who treasured her presence in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, R.C. Richardson and Christeen Adcox Ward; and her grandparents, Webb and Lois Adcox, and Katie and Ransom Richardson.
A visitation will be held on April 10, 2026, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes - Morton located at 3555 US-80, Morton, MS. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM at the same location. Subsequently, a graveside service will take place at 3:15 PM at Piney Grove Cemetery in Polkville, Mississippi.
