It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Phoebe Ann (Day) Baker.

The world was graced with an earthly angel on September 21, 1944 with the birth of Phoebe in Vincennes, IN, and heaven was gifted the epitome of a deserving human on July 10, 2026, at her residence in Brandon, MS.

Her life and memory are profoundly marked by the family she created and the lasting selflessness she portrayed during her lifelong career in nursing.

If we were to ask every single person who was ever graced with Phoebe’s acquaintance, there would be no ill remarks or hesitation to speak on her selflessness, her dedication to her family, or her accepting and welcoming presence that she exuded.

After the passing of her late husband, Charles, she made a commitment to herself to become a nurse and care for others suffering from cancer. She met that commitment with the utmost dedication by receiving her degree and dedicating her work to Baptist Oncology in Jackson, MS for over 25 years. Beyond her dedication to Baptist, she also spent 15 plus years working with Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. It takes a special type of person to work day in and day out alongside death, comforting individuals and families as they endure that reality. She was that special type of person.

Outside of her work, Phoebe, lived along the countryside with an open door to anyone in the community. She lived for reading books, quilting, golfing, the summertime and the warmth it provided, cutting grass, opening the swimming pool every year to bring joy to the kids in her family, day watching while rocking on the front porch, and attending ball games that the children were participating in.

Living a humble life of simplicity, finding joy in the small things, and taking care of those she loved is what gave her happiness.

Phoebe is survived by her son, Dean (Felicia) Baker; daughter, Molly (Steve) Laster; granddaughters, Carlie (Justin) Maupin, Jesse Baker, Ashley (Blane) Snell, Morgan (Daniel) Taylor, and Payton Baker; grandsons, Brew Baker, Justin (Abbigale) Laster, and Cody (Emmalee) Baker; sister-in-law, Faye Bailey; and many great-grandchildren.

She was unfortunately preceded in death by her husband, Charles Baker; mother, Ola Day; father, Wayne Day; sister, Brenda DeBuisseret; brothers, Phil Day and Charlie Day; sister-in-law, Evenlyn Lewis; brother-in-laws, Albert Baker and Mac Baker; mother-in-law, Floda Cain; great-grandson, Channing Phillipson.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Leesburg Baptist Church Cemetery starting at 10:00AM. 

Pall bearers to include Gavin Phillipson, Justin Laster, Justin Maupin, Daniel Taylor, Cody Baker, and Blane Snell.
