Obituary

Odell Stephens, born on September 27, 1948, in Valparaiso, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home in Brandon, Mississippi, on February 2, 2026. He was a devoted family man, and his memory will be cherished by many.

Odell dedicated a significant part of his life to his career. He worked as a foreman for Irby Construction, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. In addition to his role at Irby Construction, he also ventured into entrepreneurship with his self-employed business, Stephens Tree Removal and Stump Grinding. His determination and dedication to his work earned him the respect of his colleagues and clients alike.

In his early years, Odell chose to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, an honor he carried with pride throughout his life. This experience not only shaped his character but also instilled in him a profound sense of duty and commitment to those around him.

Odell was a man of many passions. He found joy in fishing and hunting, activities that allowed him to embrace the great outdoors. His love for nature was matched only by his unwavering dedication to his family, often being described as a work-a-holic who balanced his duties with the time he cherished spending with loved ones.

He is survived by his son, Kendall Stephens of Richland; his grandson, Zach Stephens of Brandon; and his siblings, Leo Stephens of Pelahatchie, Geraldine Bounds of Morton, and Donna Zapata of Morton. He is also remembered by his nephew, Daniel Stephens of Pelahatchie, along with several other family members and a host of friends.

Odell was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Franklin Stephens and Patricia Egan Stephens, as well as his beloved wife, Connie Jones Stephens, and several siblings. Their absence is felt deeply, yet they remain a part of his legacy.

A visitation in honor of Odell will take place on February 9, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Ott & Lee Funeral Homes in Morton, Mississippi. This will be followed by a 1pm Military Honors graveside service at Hodge Hill Cemetery, beginning at 1:00 PM and concluding at 2:00 PM.

His life, marked by dedication, hard work, and love for his family and friends, leaves behind a lasting legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. Odell Stephens will be greatly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who carry his memory forward.
