Ned Wallace Balsley, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and esteemed trust operations banker, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Born on January 4, 1948, in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania, Ned lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a profound passion for history. He was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church in Brandon, Mississippi.
Ned earned a bachelor’s degree and built a respected career in banking, dedicating many years as a trust operations banker before retiring from Trustmark Bank. His professional life was characterized by diligence and integrity, qualities that his colleagues deeply admired.
Beyond his career, Ned was a true historian. He found joy in discussing historical events with anyone willing to engage, always eager to share his wealth of knowledge. His enthusiasm extended into hobbies such as building intricately detailed models of tanks and airplanes, crafted with precise historical accuracy. He was a man who cherished history not just as a subject, but as a meaningful way to connect with the world around him.
Ned’s personality was a hallmark of warmth and gentility. Known as a real gentleman, he was always ready to open doors and express gratitude towards others’ kindness. His sense of humor brought smiles to many; he loved to tell jokes often, that he thought was humorous and brighten gatherings with his wit. Among the simple pleasures he treasured was walking his beloved dog, Beaux, all throughout the Crossgate's area sharing peaceful moments reflective of his gentle spirit.
In 1971, Ned married his beloved wife, Barbara Balsley, whom he met during their college years in 1968. Their partnership was a foundation of unconditional love and support throughout his life. He is also survived by his daughter, Julianne Elizabeth Thatch, and her husband Lauren. Ned also delighted in the company of his five grandchildren: Charles David Thatch, James Walden Thatch, Henry McCague Thatch, Julian Edward Thatch, and Samuel Laurence Thatch. His sisters, Kathryn Ellen Hostetter (Skip) and Mary Balsley Klingsporn.
Ned was preceded in death by his parents, William George Balsley and Grace McCague, as well as his brother, William McCague Balsley, whose memories he carried with respect and love.
Those who knew Ned Wallace Balsley will remember him as a man of great character, intellectual curiosity, and heartfelt generosity. His legacy endures in the stories he shared, the family he cherished, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of others. He will be profoundly missed but forever honored in the hearts of his family and friends.
