Jimmie Ruth Thompson died September 13, 2026, at the age of 89, at home after an extended illness. She was born February 12, 1937, in Leake County, Mississippi, to Hubert and Margie Mooney. She spent many years as a seamstress and a homemaker. In addition to raising her four children, she also enjoyed working in the garden and cooking (her chicken and dumplings were second to none!) She was Mama to her children and Mamaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent most of her married life in Morton, Mississippi.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James C. Thompson, her children Natalie Gibbs (Jeff), Melissa Dickson (John), Kenneth Thompson (Cindy), and Jamie Thompson (Julie). She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeremy Gibbs (Alissa), Jordan Gibbs (Kate), Lindsay Marchant (Kevin), Will Thompson (Sara), Russ Thompson (Hannah), Samm Thompson, Dylan Thompson, and Preston Thompson, her great-grandchildren Emma, Aubrey, Caleb, Harper, Isaac, Abby, Nora, Jonah, Tatum, McKellar, Zachary, Parker, Coleman, Carter and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and eight nieces and nephews. The family would like to express appreciation to Baptist Hospice, especially April and Kim, for their wonderful care during the past year.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Jeremy Gibbs, Jordan Gibbs, Will Thompson, Russ Thompson, Dylan Thompson, and Preston Thompson.

Honorary pallbearers are: Samm Thompson, Jeff Gibbs, John Dickson, and Kevin Marchant.

Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Leesburg Baptist Church Cemetery fund.
