Mary Loretta Thornton, 79, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Pearl, Mississippi.

Mary was born on July 6, 1947, in Union, Mississippi. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and she loved dogs. She adored spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, loving grandmother, and great friend.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby R. Thornton; her mother and stepfather, Missouri Eloise Butts Blaylock and Robert Blaylock; sister, Margene Penson; and brothers, Joe Glenn and Junior Glenn.

Survivors include her children, James Thornton of Pearl, Lucy Hollis (B.J.) of Brandon, and Ann Thornton of Pearl; grandchildren, J.R. Erwin, Jacob Thornton, Martin Thornton, Amanda Henry, Craig Hobbs, Steven Hobbs, Rachel Woodard, and Byron Martin; and 19 great grandchildren.

Visitation will take place at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A graveside service will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Union Baptist Church Cemetery (18959 MS-35, Mize, MS 39116).
