Lyle Daniel Richardson, retired Park Manager, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana after battling heart disease. Lyle was born May 27, 1954 in Forest, Mississippi to his parents, Edward Harlos Richardson and Minnie Dee Lyle Sanders. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herman Dewitt Warren and Eddie Hal Richardson, sisters Nellie Doris Ferguson and Mae Ethel Swain.
He was a graduate of Scott Central High School in 1972, East Central Junior College in 1975 and Delta State University in 1978; where he earned a BS Degree in Physical Education with emphasis in Park Management and Recreation. He completed his Student Teaching at East Side High School in Cleveland, Mississippi. He was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, an Honor Society in Education and was a Certificated Teacher and Educator in Physical Education K-12. Lyle was a member of The Mississippi Association of Educators and The Department of Classroom Teachers.
Always a fan of sports and outdoor activities, he was employed for over thirty years as a Park Manager for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks at various locations. Some include Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, Percy Quin State Park in McComb, and Wall Doxey State Park in Holly Springs.
Always interested in knives and collectibles, in retirement he became a businessman, owning and operating Lyle’s Knives. He sold various collectibles specializing in sports, pocket and combat blades. This is when he met his loyal friend and business partner, Steven Boyer.
Lyle, affectionately known by his family as “Danny Boy”, is survived by his brother, Don Austin Sanders; his sister, Kathy Diane McBride, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation will be held 12-2pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton, Mississippi with the funeral following at 2pm in the funeral home chapel. Internment will immediately follow at Contrell Cemetery on Hwy 13 in Lena, Mississippi.
Pallbearers are Don Sanders, Tim Perry, Steven Boyer, Cole Short, Tommy Lyle and John Lee Lyle. Honorary pallbearers are Dale Lyle and Medric Faulkner.
